“Why would we use guns?” he asked. “That’s loud. Loud gets us caught.”
“Well, I had to make sure. ‘Cause they never use guns in the movies,” Stu said. “You ever notice that? It’s about the knives. It’s about the stabbing.” He pressed a finger against Billy’s sternum. “The penetration.”

It takes a moment for Stu’s vision to come back into full focus. He’s glad it does, because it means he gets to see the finer details of Billy’s face—lips barely parted, loose strands of hair obscuring the remainders of brown iris that haven’t been completely eclipsed by wild, dilated pupils.
Stu wipes his nose. The back of his hand comes away red. “Again,” he says, grinning ear-to-ear. He leaves it up to Billy to interpret that as another kiss or another punch.
