Shane gasped and stumbled backwards. “Three weeks? You decided-” his hands flew to his mouth. “How could you do this without talking to me? This is what? To punish me because I won’t come out on your timeline?”
Ilya felt a stab of anger. “You won’t come out on any timeline!”
Shane blinked at him. “I literally drove here tonight because I wanted to know if you would accept six to twelve months!”
“A timeline,” he barked. “This is our lives, Shane. I want to be with you fully now. I know you are scared, but you need to be brave, and I am so deeply fucking unhappy being your dirty little secret.”
“That’s not fair Ilya, it’s going to be complicated for me. I’m already the only Asian captain in the league! The media, sponsors, the Voyageurs? It’s going to need to be carefully managed-”
After the Boxing Day fight, Ilya makes an impulsive decision and agrees to a trade to Vancouver, while Shane stays in Montreal and nurses his broken heart. Summary
Shane is disciplined.
He was raised that way; by his parents, by father Matthew, by his belief.
There were hiccups, of course. Small disturbances in Shane's life that he has methodically worked to suppress, to make up for with more discipline.
He is diligent in his studies at the local university, keeping his distance from people that aren't part of his church. Three times a week, he helps out with service, assisting father Matthew, and cleaning up after.

Or; Shane is a devoted member of his church that definitely isn't a cult, and Ilya is the one thing he never expected.
This is a story about religious guilt, loneliness, and, most of all, the all-consuming rollercoaster of first love.
