Steve would do damn near anything to aid Bucky with his recovery, but when his friend calls for him in a panic, terrified by the existence of his own erection, he finds himself in a rather more awkward position than he might have expected.
Still, he has no intention of letting his feelings get in the way of giving Bucky whatever help he may need, and if that means keeping his own desires firmly at bay while he teaches his best friend how to touch himself, then so be it. After all, it's not as if Bucky could ever return his feelings... right?

When Bucky accidentally stumbles across what is quite clearly Steve's private sketchbook, he doesn't know what to think. He feels terrible for having seen his best friend's best girl exposed in such a way, only Peggy isn't the only person featured in Steve's salacious sketches and seeing himself on those pages, with Peggy, with Steve, hell, with both of them at the same time... Well he may not know what to think, but his hand seems perfectly sure of what it should do...
Of course, Bucky should have known better. Should have known that his friend would inevitably end up catching him with his pants around his ankles, but then, wasn't that how Steve wanted him...?

After everything Bucky has been through in his too long life, it seems especially cruel that even now, safe and sound in Steve's spare room, he still can't find the relief that he craves. Oh he's tried, of course. He's tried everything, but no matter what he does or how he does it he can't fucking come. Honestly this might just be one of the worst things Hydra ever did to him and they didn't even do it on purpose.
So, as much as he hates to admit it, he knows he's going to need a little help if he's ever going to get past whatever psychological snares Hydra have left behind and who better to assist him than Captain America himself? Besides, Steve has always gone above and beyond when it comes to Bucky, so perhaps he won't mind too much if he's asked to lend a hand this time too...

That all changes the day Bucky finds himself inside CATastrophe, the local pet rescue, recovering from a panic attack in the back room of the shop.
He’s used to walking by the place, not visiting, but the next thing Bucky knows, he’s hanging signs and being used as a climbing tree for a bunch of freshly-acquired kittens. And he just...keeps going back. First for the kittens, then for the disaster shop owner who rescues actual kittens from actual trees and teaches archery as a side-gig, and eventually because he’s hopelessly in love.
(Clint was in love before Bucky ever walked in the door.)

Barnes snorts. “Having a drink,” he says, then gives Clint another one of those appraising looks. “You a professional?” he says, after a second, and Clint is momentarily confused.
A professional what?
And then he realizes Barnes must be talking about pool, and Clint huffs a laugh. “Only when there’s money involved,” he says, smirking, and Barnes kind of nods, like that makes any sort of sense.
Then Barnes nods again, a little more firmly, and says “You got a place?”
Which is about the point that Clint realizes that he’s not meeting the Winter Soldier in a bar, he’s being picked up by the Winter Soldier in a bar and-
“Yeah,” he croaks, clears his throat, thinks wildly that he’s really fucking glad Kate has Lucky for a few days, and says “Yeah, I got a place.”
Or, how Bucky got his groove back.
