It was no secret that the boy was handsome. His charming smile and deep blue eyes could drag anyone in. Steve had developed a little crush, he'll admit. Though he'd never tell another soul. He doesn't even want to think about how Da would react to something like that. Now Steve is twenty-four years old. He hasn't talked to James since they were sixteen and seventeen back in 2006. They haven't spoken in eight years, not since Romania fell and was taken over by Russia.
It was a year after the Rogers had met the Barnes for the first time, 1991. A horrible year for Romanians. The Soviet Union had fallen, Russia was born. The Russians got big, started taking over countries. Many around the world figured this was gonna be a redo of World War II. Russia took over Ukraine and made a deal with Moldova for their natural resources. The Barnes' hadn't stood a chance against the strong nation. Russia took over Romania. Winifred and George Barnes were killed. The four Barnes children went missing.
