Summary
Hermione Granger met Harry Potter when she was in Year 5 at Swinwearte Primary School. He was the new boy with the wild black hair and the gap-toothed grin who made his friend laugh and carried a sketchbook everywhere. She noticed him. She didn't think he noticed her back.
But Harry did notice. He always had.
Year after year, he built a life around her—holding the bus seat, staying on past his stop, walking her to the corner of Maple and Oak, stepping into her world without asking permission. Hermione experienced it all without naming it. She noticed. She filed it away. She told herself they were friends.
They were friends.
Just friends who ended up at the same university. Friends who wrote letters and met for dinner and walked through bookshops on rainy afternoons. Friends who taught each other things that probably weren't just friendly. Friends everyone else seemed to think belonged to each other.

"Ready to lose, baby Potter?" Sirius asks, his voice lively and thrilled with a tad edge of competitive mocking. His eyes haven't completely lost their sullen, broken look from Azkaban, yet Sirius looks better and far more handsome than Harry has ever seen him outside of photographs.
Harry laughs, equally ecstatic and thrilled. Sirius is alive. Voldemort is dead. They're living together just like Sirius promised him so many years ago - Harry is finally living with family that loves him, and he loves in return.

Harry’s hands cramp and shake as writes his lines on dotted paper. I must not tell lies. Each letter is painstakingly, properly formed, equal heights and properly rounded. Anything less would mean re-writing the entire page and Harry doesn’t want to do that.
Across the room, Umbridge stares at Harry, her eyes appearing enlarged by the glasses perched at the end of her nose.
“Keep writing, Potter.”
A loud knock echoes around the room and Harry jumps, startled.
“Stay put.” Umbridge scowls at him, and gets up to see who it is. She opens the classroom door.
Oh, Merlin. It’s Sirius.
