(A few chapters from an AU I have not written, based on a prompt for MB Mensah March, tentatively titled, All Systems Green, Your Security Consultant Is Perfectly Normal And Nothing Is Wrong. I know that this gets a bit too complicated to match what the prompt giver probably was imagining, but once I took the prompt as a jumping off point, I found myself coming up with more and more stuff. Hopefully it is enjoyable, even if the rest of the AU isn't written (yet).)

A dragon that large is powerful enough to drop Wayne Tower and the entire block surrounding in about a minute, to level all of Gotham in hours. There are going to be casualties, and all he can do is pray to things he isn’t sure he believes in that his family won’t be among them.
He shoves those feelings down, though, as quickly as he can. He lifts a hand to his ear, voice urgent as he bolts towards the Batburger. “Oracle, issue a city-wide evac order now! Everyone else, do not engage!”

Yes, Bruce had given Dick permission to go in his place as a proxy, but really, it was his fault for assuming that Dick was going to attend as Nightwing. There's no way he could pass for Dick’s actual brother and he’s got the face of a shell-shocked cartoon mouse — but not the cutesy mice, the ones in the old 80's movies that gave Dick nightmares as a child. That plus the fact the Drake kid’s got a thick New Jersey accent he can’t shake and that Dick doesn’t look grown-up enough to be toting around a preteen is sure to get people asking questions. Or worse. So Dick hauls Tim in by the strap on his backpack, steps onto the shoulder, sticks his thumb skyward toward the cloudless cornflower blue of middle America in summer, and prays whoever pulls over lies somewhere boring on the sliding scale between serial killer and snitch.
Dick Grayson turns 20 on March 20th, Jason Todd dies on April 27th, and by May 23rd, Bruce Wayne's ward-not-son is rattling around in the bed of a 1979 Ford F-150 heading anywhere but Gotham, New Jersey. Wayne money and Bat technology can't find him, but he's got a bug-eyed shadow and a raw Robin-shaped wound to haul across the continental United States.

He hadn't wanted another Robin either, but Tim Drake had something to say about that, which is fine, it can be purely a work relationship...But this time the Drakes have something to say about that.

Bruce takes the boy in, the purely work relationship turned into father/son. Not only does Bruce start to heal, he feels guilty about it.Or more simply: Bruce is grieving and is guilty about moving on, Tim learns that his parents never had his best interest at heart, Dick is trying his best, and Alfred is doing his best...oh and four and a half years later they learn that Jason is still alive.
