    Summary

[The scream he lets out is inhuman. It’s a sound that reaches the heavens, shakes the ground there. A sound so horribly stricken, so laden with grief that every animal for miles around- silenced initially by the powerful ghostly aura that trod through the fields- now howls along. There will be myths surrounding that sound, about the animals’ cries, about how every human who heard it burst into tears that were not their own, but for now all that exists is a mourning ghost and the breathing corpse of a god.]

    Summary

Hong Hua’s attention settled immediately on Xie Lian, eyes lingering with a subtle admiration, before quickly diverting to Lang Qianqiu.

“Your Highness,” he greeted, stepping forward and bowing with practiced precision, “I hadn’t expected the honor of your presence today.”

Lang Qianqiu smiled, clearly in high spirits. “We came at the State Preceptor’s suggestion. He thought it best that I observe and demonstrate my current understanding.”

Hong Hua inclined his head again. “Then it is our good fortune to be under the State Preceptor’s guidance today.” His attention settled once more on Xie Lian, a faint warmth touching his expression.

“Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Hong Hua.” He bowed his head, measured but sincere. “I have long heard of the State Preceptor’s skill. If I may be permitted, I would be honored to witness it for myself.”

OR: Hua Cheng finds Xie Lian three hundred years earlier, during his time as Fangxin Guoshi in Yong'an. To get close to Xie Lian, Hua Cheng joins the Yong'an Infantry under the alias of a young solider, Hong Hua, and must gain Lang Qianqiu's trust to become a member of the Imperial Guard, the personal bodyguard of the Crown Prince of Yong'an.

    Summary

Xie Lian was banished from the Heavens a long time ago. He is not a god anymore. He does not have any believers left. He is nothing more than an old tale– or the punchline of a twisted joke.
That's how it should be anyway.
But the world could never be so clear cut. From the ashes, life will bloom. From the sad ending of the first story, another begins. A new tale, a new title, a new sort of faith. Others may not notice the kind man showing up left and right, but those beneath it all do.
If the people say you are a god, then that is what you are. Even if you do not realize it yourself.

Or: Xie Lian seeks to help others whenever he can for 800 years. 800 years is more than enough time for said others to notice.

    Summary

She looked at him strangely, “Daozhang is the priest of this shrine, yes?”

Xie Lian froze, looking off to the side he coughed into his closed fist. “Ah, yes... I am.”

“Then you must know about the tale of eight hundred years!”

    Xie Lian shook his head.

Qi Ling let out an indignant gasp. Looking at him with wide eyes and an even wider mouth, she frantically shook her head. Xie Lian couldn’t help but feel as if the roles were suddenly switched and now he was the one being admonished.

“Daozhang! You must have heard of it! It’s one of the Crown Prince of XianLe’s most famous stories. The tale of the scrap collecting god and his most devoted believer, how he waited eight hundred years for his beloved to return to him?”

Xie Lian choked on air. No he did not hear of such a tale. He would've known.

(or, Xie Lian hears a prayer in the middle of the night. Mournful and agonizing as it screams out his name with a deafening cry. When he goes to investigate he ends up learning more than what he had come for.

More specifically, why half his prayers are directed towards wishes for good marriage and love advice.)

    Summary

Xie Lian has never been as delicate as he appears, with his fragile glass body, but he is still breakable. After 800 years, he is stained, scuffed, and shattered, but sometimes moss grows inside him. He pretends that makes it worthwhile.

As he ascends once more, he must contend with former vassals, the changes in himself, and a young man who claims to be made of wood, and certainly not tarnished silver like the ghost groom Xie Lian met on the mountain.

In a world where people's bodies are lanterns, whether stone, cloth, or paper, being transparent with each other changes everything for HuaLian.
