Dam Fia releases the Helgirden back into the Netherworld and escapes into an unscathed part of the forest. What she learns there shakes her to her core. She travels to the Covenant of witches held in Dam Willow's grove to share the terrible knowledge with her friend, confidante, lover Dam Lament, aware that all witches opposed to the blighters are in great danger even there.
In the half-light, Fia could make out the imposing figure stretched out on the ground. Her muscular body still looked tense, even while she was resting.
"Lament."
Fia kept her voice low, but the other witch stirred immediately and pushed herself up, supporting her upper body on one elbow. She smiled, the long cut across her face distorting, threatening to pull apart at the edges.
"Fia! You made it. Thank the Great Mother!"
