When Scar does realize what happened the night before he can feel his cheeks flush instantly, blush running over what feels like his entire body as he stares down at the guy he had invited to tag along with him yesterday on a whim. The cute guy that had insisted on kissing him underneath mistletoe that they had accidentally walked under before they passed out. Together. Like- in the same bed.

Summary
He dug through his bag of snacks, pulling out a box of pockies to eat as he stared up at the sky, pressing the back of his head against the metal air vent at the top of the roof.
He sat like that for a while, only interrupted what felt like ages later by the telltale sound of frosted-over grass crunching underneath careless feet. Shuffling to sit up from where he'd been partially slouched over, he looks in the direction he heard them from. He can't see over the raise of the roof but he hears the person stop. There's the shuffling sound of cloth rubbing on cloth before a backpack is flung up and over the ledge of the roof.

Summary
He’s slowing to a walk when he hears the foot-steps behind him pitter out against the soil. It’s gotten so quiet he couldn’t hear him walking if he had a hare’s ears. He needs to let him catch back up then. His face splits into a wide grin at that because he outran him again. And you thought he got faster, his mind cackles in delight. Then he carefully looks around, sure he’s got to be close to the giant oak where they can meet but when he recognizes nothing he starts to find himself himself worried.

Summary
Martyn awoke with a sharp, shuddering breath, his lungs filling almost unwillingly as he shot upright. His body was on fire, the sensation flowing through his veins and culminating in his stomach like a stab wound. Which didn't seem all that far from the truth as he considered it.
“Welcome back to the land of the living." A voice came from his side, and he whipped his head around to see Grian crouching next to him. "How are you feeling?”
Martyn raised a shaking hand to eye level, turning it back and forth. It was covered in blood that glittered in the moonlight, nearly black. There was a violent wound torn into his stomach, barely held together by threads of golden magic.
“Did…am I dead?” He looked up at Grian, a feeling of dread pooling in his stomach along with the blood. “Did Scar kill me?”
“Yep.” Grian extended a hand to help him up. “And you were dead, but you’re back now. So welcome back to the land of the living.”

Summary
Scar explains, “I’m a large-scale life support architect. Right now I design theoretical colonies for other planets and moons, the types of infrastructure you’d need to support life long-term on a large scale."
"I’m a theoretical astro-engineer,” Grian replies, “I design long-haul spaceships for when we’re eventually ready to make those first steps into the larger universe."
Scar gets a funny looking twinkle in his eye, and leans in, “so if you design long haul spacecraft, and I design long-term space colonies, what do you think they’ve brought us in for?”
Grian feels an excited jump in his chest, and leans in to meet him, “do you think we’re colonizing the moon?”
“What about Mars?” Scar whispers conspiratorially, “or the moons of jupiter?"
So it turns out- they weren’t quite right. They have been called in because, as the leading experts in space travel and survival, they are humanity’s last hope. In 5 years time, the moon is going to crash into earth.

Summary
Grian designed a series of survival games for his friends to play. When he told Scar about it, Scar gave him an idea of what the winner's prize should be. Every game since Grian won, Grian had wished for nothing more than for Scar to win so he could show him the winners' void he helped create.

Summary
The fancy human was going to make Grian hurt. Was talking about Grian dead .
Something about the idea of the only human who had ever been nice to him being hurt made something in Scar snap.
"Goodbye, Xelqua," The fancy human said, sounding so victoriously smug. But Scar was already at the surface. There would be no victory for them.
Scar lunged out of the water, grabbed their ankles, and pulled. They slipped and fell hard onto the concrete and he wasted no time in dragging them into the water, taking special care to not bring Grian with them. He swiftly pushed the fancy human beneath him, shifting his grasp to the shoulders. The pool cover slammed close above him, and it sounded final.
He sped to the bottom of the tank, faster than the fancy human could react. He directed them towards the rocks and smashed the fancy human into it. They likely would have screamed if they were not underwater. Scar met their eyes for a brief moment. There was something in them trying to be anger, but the only thing they reflected was pure terror.
This was not going to be a pleasant death.
