Summary
Sirius Black is almost thirty, almost always alone, and almost always stressed out. For the past four and a half years he's been raising his late best friends' son, just trying to keep himself afloat. But his exhausting life of school drop-offs and staff meetings is interrupted when he runs into a gorgeous librarian - literally - destroying a priceless book in the process. As the men continue to meet - by chance or by design - they become more drawn to one another. Soon Sirius will have to make a choice: risk throwing a wrench into his already-chaotic life and threaten the stability he's work so hard to create for Harry, or risk losing the exquisite man who's slowly but surely captured his heart.

“You don’t know the first thing about me.”
“I could say the same to you.”
“You’re pretty easy to figure out,” Remus snapped, “Spoilt rich boy drinks himself to death every night and terrorises the locals. It’s a bit of a stereotype, isn’t it?”
Eyes glinting, Sirius tilted his head, and he was speaking, but Remus was too distracted by how close their faces suddenly were, by how he could feel the heat radiating off Sirius, and what he could smell; coconut-scented shampoo, his aftershave, and a dark lick of smoke.
“Am I terrorising you?” He whispered.
Remus bit down on his tongue, “Yes.”
“How terrible,” Sirius tilted his head to the side, “Someone should stop me.”
Remus is stuck in his painfully whimsical home-town, juggling multile jobs while dreaming of a future beyond it all, when Sirius Black arrives, carrying a dangerous amount of personal baggage and a penchant for trouble. To put it lightly, they don't get on.

Last year, Remus was in 4th year and Sirius was in 5th. The year before that, Remus was... irrelevant. He's not sure Sirius knows he exists.
This year, with a shiny new badge on his chest, Remus Lupin is officially on Sirius' radar. Remus Lupin is officially a pain in Sirius' arse.

Summary
Remus has endured three years of his behavior. He’d be willing to accept it, deal with it, make peace with the idea of Sirius as a town asshole. Every town has one - they ride loud motorcycles in the middle of the night and spend one too many hours at the town's dive bar.
But Sirius isn’t an asshole, at least to anyone who isn’t named Remus. Sirius holds doors open for little old ladies, he volunteers at local organizations, he mows and rakes and weeds people's yards out of the goodness of his heart. He lives and bleeds for the town of Godric’s Hollow - knows everyone and their children by name and greets them as if they’ve been best friends for years.
Remus would call it performative if he hadn’t been witness to it many times, Sirius Black and his charm and his inability to resist helping someone.
