"Can you speak to us, Toms?" Wilbur whispers, thumb brushing against Tommy's cheek, "Tell us what's going on. We’re here to help you. We won't be mad or anything, I promise."
Nothing, Tommy wants to say, pressing his face into his brother's palm, into the hand that cards through his curls. Nothing's going on.
Instead, he blinks, then snaps his head away from his family to pull the collar of his shirt up, dissolving into a coughing fit.
"It's hard to breathe," he admits hoarsely once he's caught his breath, a hand to his neck and the other clutching his chest. It's like he's collapsing inside of himself, the strange feeling of his entire being contorting.

“Did I make a joke during the stream?” Wilbur asks seriously, and guilt and frustration bubble up in Tommy’s chest.
“Wilbur, I said it’s not your fault.”
“Did I,” Wilbur says again, and Tommy clenches his jaw, and fireworks rattle inside his chest. His eyes sting, and a raging river roars past his ears, so he gives up and throws his hands up.
"Yes. Okay? Yes. Are you happy? Yes, you fucking— you hurt my feelings," he explodes, feeling shame eat away at his insides. “Yes, I was butthurt, and yes, I was jealous. And then I got over it. And I’m fine. So I don’t even know why we’re having this conversation."
or: Tommy, Tubbo, and Ranboo invite Wilbur over to stream and hang out. The further the night goes on, the further Tommy sinks into his own head. Wilbur is the first to notice; he always is.

This was going to be so cool.
Tommy grinned, holding up the lighter that he got from Schlatt (who specifically told him not to set any fires with a wink while Wilbur cried in the other room) in front of a wood house, entirely unusual considering it was sandwiched between two very big buildings. Apparently someone named Jack Manifold lived here, which was a stupid name, so Tommy was determined to burn his house.
And..well, it’s not like anything bad is going to happen. It’s just a bit of friendly arson!
Nothing could ever go wrong.

Phil pulls away slightly, and Tommy flinches, but it’s only so that Phil can turn to look Tommy in the eyes. “Hey, Tommy, can you look up at me?”
Phil’s never done anything but help Tommy, so he looks up. “There you are,” he whispers. “There you are, Toms. My Tommy.” Tommy sniffles a bit, eyes flicking down. Phil nudges his chin gently to get him to look back up.
“Tommy, I’ve never been anything but proud of you,” Phil tells him, steady steady steady. “You could be immobile – you could be unable to walk at all, unable to do anything physical, and I’d still be proud of you. These?” Phil tugs gently at Tommy’s wings. “These have no bearing on your worth as a person, alright?”
Tommy scrunches his eyes shut, barely managing to hold the tears back.

Tommy jumps out of bed, tripping over his own feet as he practically sprints for the door. He opens it, and- there he is.
Wilbur’s standing just outside the walls, staring at them with an entirely too complicated look on his face. Tommy doesn’t bother to even try parsing it, and instead just drinks in the sight of his brother. Wilbur looks exhausted, honestly, dark circles painted beneath his eyes. He’s here, though, right in front of Tommy.
And even now, after all this time, Wilbur still means safety, so Tommy can’t stop himself from gasping out a sob and falling to his knees.
Wilbur jerks his head from the walls to finally fall on Tommy. He’s just noticed him, apparently. “Tommy?” Wilbur croaks, “What’s-”
Tommy shakes his head, holding out his arms like he’s five again. Wilbur cuts himself off, and just...stares at Tommy. “Wilbur,” he chokes out. Wilbur’s face immediately grows ten times more worried.
“Oh, Tommy,” Wilbur says, placing his hand on the wall and hoisting himself up and over easily.

Admitting defeat, he melted into the hold, nimble fingers clutching onto the older's jacket tightly, trying to absorb the warmth. He turned, shoving his face into Wilbur's chest with a huff, grumbling under his breath, "'M not trembling. Shut up."
He ignored the coos from above, breath coming out in cold clouds, floating in the air. A hand grasps his chin, tilting his face up enough so that the older can duck down and press a kiss to his forehead, gentle and lingering, warmth blooming on the spot. He can't help leaning into it desperately, sighing happily.
