“Y’know, before all this,” Hikaru whispers, “I never wanted anything. Not in the way that humans want things, anyway. But I knew what it was. Like, what it meant, to want somethin’. ‘Cause I could give people what they wanted. Wishes were for them, but not for me.”
Yoshiki turns towards Hikaru, freeing his arm from under him so their heads share the same pillow.
“Do ya have any wishes now?” Yoshiki whispers back.
“Mhmm,” Hikaru nods. “Just one.”
“What—” A clap of thunder cuts him off and Yoshiki is almost scared to try again, but he clears his throat and asks. “What is it?"
Hikaru laughs, snaggletooth fully visible, and knocks his knee against Yoshiki.
“You sure are stupid sometimes,” Hikaru says, still laughing. Yoshiki pouts and Hikaru just laughs harder, reaching up to pinch his cheek. “Ain’t it obvious? It’s you.”
Sometimes a person is a wish, a home, and a monster all in one. Yoshiki contains multitudes.

Summary
“Did ya mean it?” Hikaru asks, his small voice meek and hopeful.
Yoshiki commands himself to look up, to stare into those eyes. The pupils are black, a facade of humanity, but they are filled with the sort of longing that could only be human. They haven’t stopped holding hands and Yoshiki can’t help but brush his thumb over Hikaru’s skin to soothe him. Even though he’s blushing so hard that his ears are pink, he holds the eye contact.
“Yeah, I did. I love you, Hikaru. Just as you are.”

On their way to town hall, Hikaru asks Yoshiki an important question, and Yoshiki has an important answer.
