Summary
The vampires who emerged with the closing of the Fold don’t trouble the Geldstraat. Ketterdam’s rich live securely, with powerful wards against the supernatural built into the fabric of their houses and private security to walk their streets after dark. The rest of the city does what they can to keep safe, but the last line of defense for the poor, the helpless, and the unlucky are the Flames. Chosen by the University of Ketterdam’s Night Science Institute and sponsored by the city in the interests of preserving their labor force, Flames hunt vampires through the streets, accompanied by University-trained Wardens who strengthen and protect them.
Ever since Inej’s parents were killed, she’s devoted herself to a single ambition: becoming a Flame. But on the streets of Ketterdam, the future she dreamed of may not look much like the future she gets.

It’s me.”
After the success of his first international escapade, Kaz Brekker takes up a few easier ones in the interest of supplementary earnings. The food trade is stable, reliably profitable, and gives him far less trouble than some of his business in the city. Until someone threatens the wrong ship.

Perhaps it is to be widely recognized that a single man, in good faith and good wealth, must be in want of a wife. And while this principle certainly applied to the vast majority of men, let it be known that Lord Brekker was most suitably found within the minority of this group.
When caught in unsavory circumstances, Lord Brekker and Ms. Inej Ghafa must compromise a solution that neither truly had a say in.
Add to the mix long standing feuds, warring nations, and tumultuous relationships, and its a recipe for disaster.
But, perhaps, in the end things may just work themselves out, against the will of the many.

The good people at Bloch & Sternbach have cut him a generous advance on the fourth and final book, but actually writing the damn thing has become the bane of Kaz's existence. As a way to help himself get focused and start again, he books himself an extended stay at a local hotel for a personal retreat.
At check-in, he meets the beautiful and charming desk agent Inej Ghafa, who immediately leaves an impression on him. The point of this trip is obviously not to find reasons to talk to her, but Kaz soon finds himself doing just that.
A story about finding creativity and connection again after a long period of grief and loss.
