“Exactly!” Donnie beams and Mikey – despite how abso-super-lutely and straight up horrifying this theory is – gives himself a second to feel a little proud he figured it out.

when you can't be sure whether you're truly awake and the nightmares keep turning worse, it's up to mikey to save his brothers. but for that, he has to wake up first.

“Sleep. I watch,” he warbles from his post at the door. The first thing he’s said to me in hours. We haven’t talked about anything yet, aside from his pushing to prove I wasn’t hiding more contraband. I scowl at him.
“Don’t want to.” I feel like one of my kids with the level of petulance that seeps into my voice. I miss my kids. I miss having a place. I have a place here, I need to accept it’s just… Different. Still, I’m not gonna listen to Rocky right now.
Rocky grumbles at me. “Scientists say Grace hasn’t slept in 32.6 hours.” Jeez, has it really been that long? I don’t think I’ve had an all-nighter that bad since college. “Cognitive impairment begins after only 24. Bad decisions, dangerous thoughts like you mention. Why you are sick.”
“You left me.” I didn’t mean to say that. Too late.
or Grace is having a hard time adjusting to life on Erid, and it only gets worse when Rocky disappears. They work it out.
