    It‘s the Rapture, Mac thinks sometimes. Everyone deserving has already been saved. They‘re just rotting, down here.
    He looks at Dennis, sleeping relatively peacefully at last, even if shivers shoot through his body every so often, and knows that probably, that‘s the reason he wasn’t taken, too, curled up in their blankets. Why His eye passed right over Mac just as it passed over Dennis, over those they've seen crawling in the streets or the neighbors that have been eerily quiet for days.
    Watching Dennis' chest slowly rise and fall, listening to the soft sounds of his breathing, Mac finds himself regretting that fact less than he‘d have thought. They‘re still together, at least. Hell with Dennis or heaven without him; Mac has made his choice a long time ago. Even if hell is on earth.
