And it wasn’t as if he put a lot of merit in things like horoscopes and other methods of fortune telling, but he liked to think that he put enough.
His issue, of course, was that he had failed to check Dan’s horoscope.

“I’m not doing anything for my birthday.” Izzy said, folding the paper and setting it aside. “I’ll go to work like normal. I’ll go to bed like normal. Nothing different. Nothing special.”
“But it’s only every four years!” Stede pouted.
“Naw, let him be,” Ed said, walking back into the room and clinking his empty plate down in the sink. “He’s made up his mind.”
Izzy squinted in Ed’s direction. “And don’t be planning any surprises. You know how I feel about surprises.”
“How does Izzy feel about surprises?” Stede asked.
“Hates ‘em,” Ed and Izzy said in unison as Izzy stood from the breakfast table.

The flood of sticky-sweet affection that courses through him tingles all the way in his fingers and toes. In their shared vernacular of nonsense words and teasing jabs, there is almost nothing so precious and intimate between them as that endearment. It’s rare from Dan these days in a way it wasn’t in the beginning, largely because he has grown and matured and with him the way he expresses affection, but it takes him straight back to 2009 every time.

For nearly 400 years, the world has suffered under the overarching rule of the Old Gods - cosmic beings who treat humanity as their own personal toys. In Victorian London, Blackbeards Crew has failed in another assassination attempt of the Emperor of the British Empire, the God who rules through Queen Victoria.
Meanwhile in Dorset, the household of the Bonnet family needs a new staff. The household suffers under a tense, cold atmosphere, as Alma's thirteenth birthday draw nearer.
Ed uses this opportunity to escape London. And, by bringing the 2 groups together, he brings forth secrets that have long been kept buried, and allows himself, Izzy and Stede to find a relationship that will shape not only themselves and their crew, but also the future.
