Leo, upon gaining more and more confidence thanks to his solo patrols, pokes the bear he never meant to poke. It blows up in his face. Badly.

Summary
When Leo was little, as in extra little and barely a cupboard tall, his favorite superhero wasn’t Batman like everyone would’ve guessed. As he grew older, he grew wiser and his taste in heroes changed. It became Batman like the top of Leo's imaginary podium had been made for him since the beginning of time.
And Leo couldn't think of a better guy to be like.
OR: Leo forgets to stop and smell the roses every once in a while, and childlike wonder is so easily lost in time.

“Raphael,” she said gently. “I know it’s difficult for you to use the past tense-”
“It’s not difficult, it’s just wrong,” Raph growled. He couldn’t look at her. This was the thing. The thing that made everyone look at him with pity. Like he was defective or broken. Like he was some stupid idiot who couldn’t get with the program.
But it was everyone else who was wrong. Raph was the only one who was living in reality.
“Leo. Isn’t. Dead.”
_________________It's been two years since Leo's disappearance. The city has erected a monument in Bryant Park to honor and mourn New York's bravest young hero.
While Leo's statue sits in the park, Raph sits in therapy. Everyone believes Raph is too traumatized, too wounded to process the loss of his brother.
But there's something Raph can't explain, something only he can feel, something everybody wants him to ignore. It whispers softly somewhere in the deepest corners of his mind: he's still here.
Raph listens.

But for now it's time to run, it's time to run!"Leo remembers telling his brothers one night, if he ever dies, he wants to go out with this song. It would be heroic, epic, and would fit his vibe well. Besides, he loved Woodkid, and this song has been one of his favourites for approximately 6 years already! His brothers groaned in unison, making jokes about it, cause why would he wanna go out in such a sappy way?
Later on though, Donnie looked at him, like... really really looked at him while Raph and Mikey fell asleep next to them. "Don't go away soon" the youngest whispered, patting Mikey's head in his sleep. "As cool as that song would be, we still need you yaknow.”
Leo promised he is not planning to go. They're young, just barely turned 16, they have a whole life ahead of them. When the time comes, when he is a lot older and less afraid, it would be epic to have a heroic falldown. But, he doesn't want to go yet.
