Summary
Steve had a bad feeling, and this wasn't the first time it had happened.
For as long as he could remember, he had always had hunches. Hunches about events that hadn't even happened yet but warned him before the shoe could drop. He was used to them. To the bad omens. To the anxiety they brought.
Maybe, that's why he was as tense as a coiled spring when they entered Hawkins Lab, as gray as decayed as the rest of the Upside Down. But not even a hunch could have prepared him for what happened that day. He couldn't have braced himself for the party splitting up. He couldn't have braced himself for an argument with Dustin, much less the boy's violent reaction at him bringing Eddie into the conversation.
He couldn't have expected to crack his head open into the ground, nor the world that waited for him when he opened his eyes once again. Neither the spider that bit him, or the powers that would later bring him.
And when this peculiar world welcomed him, he couldn't help but wonder.
Was that Munson? In a big sign? Wearing a hero-like costume?
And why on Earth was he blond?

Summary
Steve has seen Eddie Munson’s grave. And not just that – he’s seen Eddie accused of murdering Chrissy Cunningham, hunted through Hawkins, and holding a spear and shield like he’s about to march into battle. What Steve hasn’t seen is exactly how any of it happens – much less, how the hell he’s supposed to save his boyfriend.
Rescuing Chrissy seems like the obvious place to start, but despite Steve and his friends’ efforts, a teenager still dies. And now the whole town is looking for a killer, the government is suspicious of El, all while something unknown is methodically hunting teenagers.
And Steve has more to lose than ever before. He and Eddie are out to their friends, Eddie is finally on track to graduate, and Steve has started to let himself believe he and Eddie could have a future together. Now, he’s determined not to let anyone – or anything – take that future away from them.
But in Hawkins, determination isn’t always enough to keep loved ones safe. With those he couldn’t save weighing more heavily on Steve by the day, he’s desperate to find a way to keep Eddie from becoming yet another casualty.

Eddie has his bare back turned, muscles moving elegantly underneath thick, beautiful skin covered in design. He turns back around holding a dagger pressed between his thumbs. The one with the blade has a pinprick of blood just beginning to blossom. Steve's mouth waters.
