    His flesh hand drifted over to his left rib cage, tracing over mottled flesh where a soulmark used to be. The area was so marred by scars that the feather-like mark wouldn’t be recognizable even if it were still there. But that mark had faded long ago. What were a few scars over an empty patch of skin?

    Vash wasn’t aware he was staring until the priest looked at him and smirked. “Am I that nice to look at, Blondie?”
    “Oh, um sorry! I didn’t mean to be rude!” Vash felt his face reddening. “I just thought it was awfully kind of you to spare a prayer for those bandits. Most people never try to talk things out these days.”
    “And is that what you were doing?” The priest kicked off of the wall, leaning towards him. “Trying to talk things out with lawless criminals?”
    Vash smiled awkwardly. “Yeah… I just thought I’d give them the chance to make things right, you know?”
    “Then perhaps it’s fate that we ran into each other,” the priest chuckled. Vash was all too aware of the way his chest shook as he did (why was his shirt unbuttoned so far down? Is that normal for priests these days?). “The name is Wolfwood. Nicholas D. Wolfwood. And you, Needle Noggin?”

    Wolfwood expected… a lot of things to happen when he accepted the mission.
    He expected the usual fare of “Find the demon, exorcise the demon, get chewed up for destroying half the city, cash in, finished”, he expected being stuck in this god forsaken city for a few weeks, looking for a myth, not finding anything, taking another week off to go on a paid vacation and then coming back and getting chewed out for shrinking his duties.
    He expected nothing out of the ordinary.
    Well.
    Nicholas Dangerous Wolfwood will be the first man to say that he might have fucked up. Big time.
    Roberto will never let him live this down, not to mention Millie.
    How exactly is he supposed to explain that he might have bound himself to a demon? And it would have been fine if it had been the usual run of the mill demon! Shoot the fucker, bond dissolved, no one needs to know, but  no.
    It’s not just any demon, it’s Vash the motherfucking Stampede. The very same thing he was supposed to find and exorcise.
    Who also saved his life, chained his life force to Wolfwood to get them out of a tight spot and maybe, just maybe, might be the most adorable demon in existence.
    So yeah.

    Wolfwood fucked up.
