He’d hoped that would make Rand laugh, but instead, his melancholy doubled. “I want to go home, Mat,” he whispered, thumb rubbing over Mat’s ring. “I just want to go home, with you. Why—why did it have to be us? Why did it—” His voice broke. “Why did it have to be me?”
