Summary
Etho stares into blank space for a while, then at his pet pufferfish in its tank.
He can’t find it in himself to move from beside the glass shards. He wonders if this is a symptom of his mysterious disease the doctors have been unable to figure out.
“Oh Prickles…” he laments to said pufferfish. Prickles will not survive for long after he’s dead, and Etho knows this. He wonders if selling Prickles to a Japanese restaurant would guarantee a better and more merciful demise.
It’s a funny thing, how Etho can be a better father to a pufferfish than to his own children.

He tipped his visor down, before motioning for everyone else beside him to do the same.
Then he took out the little drachma of oil he had on himself for ritual purposes. He splashed it on his armour, again gesturing for everyone else to do the same.
Then he sparked his flint against his armour once more.
“May this burn away my impurities and cleanse me, as it does this city. Sanctify me. Refine me. Long ago, this fire and I met in the shifting sand. If it is the will of the Universe, let it be that we meet again,” Wels murmured to his God as the world around him became heat, so reminiscent of the desert.
The skulk screamed. The world screamed with it.

“Honourable mistress. I…I seek sanctuary.”
Pearl arched an eyebrow, gaze sweeping over tattered green robes hanging on a lean frame, bloodied wrappings around callused hands, and a well-worn crossbow slung across his shoulder; axe strapped to his back.
A hunter, or a lumberjack, if Pearl were to guess. That would explain why this stranger had been out so late in the night; why he had been caught in the storm.
