Summary
Shane struggles. He struggles with sticking to his "Canada's Golden Boy" persona. He does his best because it's better to stick to that label; people prefer Hollander #24, the best hockey player in Canada, but they never prefer Shane. So he understands the need to stick and play his role as the Golden Boy. It's who people like and tolerate. At least that's what he thought.
A car accident forces him to confront his relationship with himself and how people view him. As well as see him through the eyes of the people who love him.

Shane looked at him, confused. He even made eye contact, trying to understand. He didn't. “Are you by any chance under the impression that I work for Berko? Because I don't." he clarified.
The teenager rolled his eyes. “Oh, you don't?"
“No.”
A smile spread across the boy’s face, cracking the dried blood around his lips. “He was right about you.”

“What? Hollander too scared to face me?” Ilya chirps, because if he goes another minute without at least mentioning the man that has been consuming his every thought for two weeks he might go insane. He needs someone else to acknowledge his existence, his absence, to fucking tell him what’s going on so he can finally get it off his mind. It’s just a stupid mystery. That’s why it bugs him.
And then Hayden Pike looks up. Dark bruised circles under his eyes, face pale like a sheet, eyes red rimmed and puffy like he has been crying all day. The face of a man mourning.
Ilya feels like the ice might crack under him. Something’s wrong with Shane.
