Aonung, the charismatic yet cocky basketball captain of Awa’atlu High, makes a reckless bet with his drunk best friend Nashvi to make the new student, Neteyam, fall for him before prom and then break his heart on prom night. Unbeknownst to Aonung, Neteyam is already dating Paytxul, the captain of their rival school Atu’tani High, and Aonung’s biggest competitor. Seeing this as an opportunity to mess with his rival and stir up some high school drama, Aonung seems excited to carry out this scheme. Ao'nung was born Nì’aw, the marked one, one of the Syawntu, which means somewhere there, there's his soulmate, his fated one, his Txe’lan, to whom his heart sings.
Ao'nung hates it. He wishes he could be normal, fall for anyone, wishes he could spend his days without this fathomless longing inside of his chest that knows no direction.
But then, one day, six Omatikaya come from the sky and when he lays his eyes on one of them, he can't imagine the world could ever be any different.
