Home, this small town filled with too big now impossible dreams. This small town with its big walls meant safety, a calm before a storm of the tangible reminders of why it fell apart, of why Anna wasnt here anymore, of what Maria tried and failed to blame. The walls were a tangible stopper on the flow of anger and resentment that tried to fill her as she remembered what she could have saved. There was a leak somewhere, letting out careful streams akin to the mycelium that now crawled across the country.

Is that the plan?” Tess puts her hands on her hips and gives him a cold stare. “Joel Miller, you are a lot of things, but I never thought a coward was one of them.”
“It ain’t like that; it’s for her own good.” He stammers.
"Sure, for her own good. I think this is about you and the fact that you can’t possibly handle the idea of losing another-”
"Don’t say it, Tess. Dont!” He spits his hand making a cutting motion through the air. “She’s not our kid, Tess, and we sure as hell aren’t her parents.”
IE: Five times Tess hugs Tommy, and one time he hugs her. A Tess Lives Storyline.

Ellie’s eyes snapped open and she gasped, rolling painfully onto her side as she recalled exactly where she was. And with WHO. Underhand, the carpet scratched sharply as she shifted, protesting her meagre weight with nearly as much vigor as her wrist did. Ellie’s brow furrowed, her gaze swinging around the blazing diner she lay in, relaxing slightly as she took note of the machete David had torn from James’ throat and hauled with him as he stalked after her. Fuck yeah.
*OR, I rewrote the David scene because I can, and then I'm going to write an indulgent chapter about Joel caring for her because I can't get enough of them!!

A pregnant pause swells to fill the garage. Then Dina snorts and claws upright on the couch. She sways dizzily. “Oh, for sure.” Ellie squeaks, and Dina goes on, voice sing-songing, “And not just the old ones.”
Jesse says, slowly, bravely, “If we’re being honest, I think Joel’s attractive.”
Ellie falls backwards onto her ass, grunting at the impact. “Oh my God-”
“Tommy too,” Jesses adds, and Ellie throws a handful of puzzle pieces at him, shrieks:
“What?!”
