He sees her in dreams before she even shows up at the doorstep.
Late at night, he wakes up in a cold sweat, his eyes snapping open to find hers in the dark of the room. She’s sitting at the end of the bed, looking back at him, hands politely folded in her lap, her habit riding up over her fishnet-clad legs. It’s not a proper habit, either. It’s closer to those awful adult Halloween costumes the Church stopped fighting decades ago —all cleavage and a short skirt. Although nothing about her, aside from that attire, suggests anything inherently blasphemous.
One blink and she’s gone, not a word spoken, but he knows she’ll be back when he needs it the least.
