In the grand scheme, Natasha's life was a small price to pay to bring back the billions of lives lost. She wanted her friends back. She wanted her sister back. She could only hope Yelena would forgive her for dying in the process.
Of course, she didn’t tell Clint, or anyone else for that matter, what she planned to do. She knew they’d all try to talk her out of it. Her eyes slid over to Steve, who was staring at her with curiosity in his gaze. He tilted his head to the side, and she briefly wondered if he somehow knew.
God, she wanted to tell Steve most of all. She wanted to say a proper goodbye. Instead, she flashed him a small smile and said, “See you in a minute.”
The corner of his mouth quirked up, and then they were gone.

Steve would never see her face again, hear her laugh again, feel her body pressed into his at night again as they helped one another fend off the demons brought on by sleeping alone. Never again.
Because Natasha was dead.
He couldn’t breathe. The collar of his tee shirt felt like a boa constrictor winding its way around his windpipe. He bent over where he sat, tugging it away from his throat and sucking in air. His heart was racing, and his fingers felt numb. Was he dying, too?

“Pete look at the water!” Peter snapped his head up and looked into what Morgan was trying to show him. In the water there were two figures, one was in red and the other in black. They were face up and floating next to each other.
“Are they people? What are people doing in our creek?”
“I’ll see, you stay here.” Morgan nodded as the spider boy walked to the other side of the creek. Peter could tell that it was two people in the creek, but how they got there was a mystery. From what he could see it was a man and woman, both seemed at peace, but then it was the floating of red hair that had Peter’s breath caught in his throat.
“Pete? What is it? Are they okay?”
“Morgan go back to the house and get everyone now! I think it’s Natasha and Tony!” Morgan could only nod, in shock, before her little legs carried her back to the cabin.
(Or Tony and Natasha are alive because that's how it should've been.)
