Summary
Suguru made his choice, left Satoru behind in petty revenge for Satoru surpassing him, and they would never be on equal footing ever again, would only ever be locked in this game of pressing on each other’s bruises and calling it pleasure. Satoru was strong, so he’d debase himself for Suguru, the show of submission his version of love. Suguru was weak, so he’d go along with it, greedy for the chance to hold power over Satoru. He couldn’t decide which was more pitiful.
Two years after Suguru's defection, Satoru shows up on his doorstep.

Summary
"If you had asked Riz two hours ago what his plans for postgrad were, this would’ve never made the list. But since Jawbone said the words, Riz can’t get it out of his head. The image of the two of them, best friends, traveling far and wide, licking their wounds in seedy motels, nothing but the skin of their teeth and the rumble of a motorcycle engine. “I mean, think about it,” Riz says, which is exactly what Jawbone told them to do. His voice comes out soft and delicate, like a ceramic figure that can be easily broken. He doesn’t like it. “Think about it. Can you really imagine yourself doing anything else?”'
or
Fabian and Riz take up the mantle of traditional adventuring, just with the added benefit of the internal combustion engine.

Summary
“If this is a crazy Helioic cult, wouldn’t it have been better to find some nice lady spy to come with you? Or literally any one of our female friends?”
“Adaine’s too recognizable, Fig’s taken, and Kristen has a mullet.” Riz ticks them off on his fingers. “Besides, having a male partner makes me an outsider. It gives them something to sink their teeth into.”
“I see,” Fabian says with a grin, “I’m bait.”
“You’re not bait.”
“I’m set dressing,” Fabian amends, taking another slice of pizza. “I’m honored.”
[OR Riz is tasked with taking down a cult from the inside, and Fabian is along for the ride.]

Summary
Vash almost dies, accidentally flirts with his best friend, has a crisis, almost dies some more, fucks his best friend on purpose, and nearly gets everything he wants. Not necessarily in that order.
Or, in other words: a complicated innuendo involving Chekov’s gun.
