Summary
Michael Audrey Myers is born with a few words on his upper arm: “I wish I had you all alone, just the two of us. I would hold you close to me… so close to me.”
Judith tells him about soulmates right before he starts kindergarten. “One day, you’ll meet a nice girl and those words will be some of the first things you hear out of her mouth. And when you hear those words, you’ll know she’s the one and whatever else happens, you can’t let her go. You have to love her and hold her and keep her close. Just like your words say. You can do that, right, Michael?”

Summary
You turned your head, eyes narrowing as you finished tacking up Bluebell for a short trail ride. You wanted to get your bearings around the property while there was still plenty of daylight left, and taking the mare out seemed like a better way to do it than wandering around on foot. At least, that had been the plan. Bluebell had apparently decided she had other ideas. She tossed her head as you led her out of the barn, the bit jingling softly between her teeth. Her tail slapped irritably against her flank, and she kept shifting her weight from one hoof to another, never quite settling. Her ears were pricked sharply forward, then twisting sideways, then back again as she listened to something you couldn't hear. Something had spooked her. You just had no idea what.
You glanced back toward the barn, then out across the clearing. Nothing immediately stood out. The trees were still. The old camp sat farther beyond them, quiet and half-swallowed by vegetation. For just a second, between two trunks, you thought you saw something. A flash of ivory white. You stared, and it was gone almost immediately. You blinked. Nothing. A trick of the woods, most likely.
