The BAU has a new agent assigned to them against their wishes. After-all they don't need a new agent, especially one with a file so classified they can't see anything but the agent's name in it. But Strauss's orders are Strauss's orders. It would help if this Daisy would stop taking stupid risks and acting like she's bored. Of course Daisy really is bored and isn't exactly allowed to mention that after fighting aliens, Inhumans, and Hydra, dealing with regular serial killers is kind of low stakes.

Summary
Patrick Jane does not realise he is in love with Teresa Lisbon all at once.
He realises it in pieces: in tea made without asking, in a crooked tie fixed before an interview, in her voice cutting through the dark before he can drown in it. Lisbon realises it harder, after the apartment feels wrong without him in it and the silence starts to feel less like peace and more like absence.
The team notices after that.
Cho notices first, because of course he does. Van Pelt notices because Lisbon smiles differently. Rigsby notices last, dramatically and far too late for his dignity to survive intact.
But when an old enemy of Jane’s comes back with bodies, messages, and a plan designed to tear him apart, the team finally sees the truth beneath all the teasing, domesticity, and quiet office touches.
This was never casual.
Patrick Jane survived losing his wife once.
He would not survive losing Teresa Lisbon.

Patrick Jane is recovering.
Technically.
The visible injuries are healing. The hospital is behind him. The worst of the blood, smoke, surgery, and terror has passed into the kind of aftermath everyone keeps trying to survive quietly. Lisbon brings him home. Cho makes him rest. Grace makes him eat. Rigsby carries what Jane cannot. The team rearranges itself around him with the stubborn, practical love of people who have already almost lost him once and have no intention of doing it again.
Jane notices all of it.
Of course he does.
But noticing care is not the same as believing it will stay.
Recovery leaves him slower, weaker, needier, more frightened, and far more inconvenient than he knows how to tolerate. And Patrick Jane, who has spent years making himself useful, charming, clever, and difficult to keep, has to learn something far more terrifying than pain:
Love does not vanish when he becomes hard to care for.
