Summary
Just how did Dagoth Voryn go from keeping Kagrenac's tools safe, to not letting anyone else have them? To being completely unhinged and corrupted with the power of the tools? Potentially to the point of attacking his once close friend? What was that like, mentally, for him? What were his reasons? How did it happen?
This fic is my attempt to step into his shoes, to explore the idea of what exactly it was like to be Dagoth Voryn in that moment. Alone in Red Mountain, just having lost many friends due to Kagrenac's instruments. Now being left alone with those very instruments in the place where it all happened, not knowing how long it would take for Nerevar and the others to return, and not knowing what would happen next.

Summary
Nerevar reincarnated as the Nerevarine. What no one else but Nerevar knows, is that he always reincarnates as the Nerevarine, each time he dies. He spends lifetimes upon lifetimes, living through the same events. But the one constant he always comes back to, is Dagoth Ur, Voryn, his oldest friend and first love. A series of short glimpses into some of his lifetimes, focusing on his initial meetings with Dagoth Ur.
Alternatively: I thought it was incredibly sad that in the game, these two old friends are pitted against each other and must battle to the death. Especially considering that, in game, Dagoth Ur extends the Olive branch to the Nerevarine multiple times. So I wrote a few different ways that things could go for them instead.

A single table in the center of it all framed by two worn beanbags wearing holes onto the floor, with wires tangled across it because a certain someone doesn't know how to organize in ways other than couplets.

The Kaiju - or Horrorterrors, as the trolls call them - first invaded Earth through a transdimensional rift at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. Serving the Condesce in her quest to add Earth to the Alternian Empire, these monsters have terrorized humanity for twelve years. With the help of rebel troll factions and the adaptation of Alternian mind integration technology - The Drift - the Interspecies Defense Program has fought back as the last line of defense between the Kaiju and Earth.
Karkat Vantas was a Jaeger pilot, fought for freedom in the Assault on the Breach that brought trolls to Earth. The loss of his co-pilot left him bitter and full of rage, but desperate times have lead to him being recruited to join the fray once more.
Dave Strider is the best and brightest the Interspec program has to offer. Jaeger Restoration Project Head, highest simulation score on record, and younger brother of the Deputy Marshal - except he's not allowed in a Jaeger.
Nobody expects them to be Drift Compatible.
