    Summary

“Get up.” Valeriy’s voice cuts through the fog, sounding every ounce the military man that he is. “You’re going to the infirmary.”

“Good idea”, Mitya mumbles, for once not putting up an argument.

As he gets to his feet, he stumbles, head spinning. The very next moment, Valeriy is there, not even asking before lacing one arm behind his back and the other under his knees, hoisting him into the air in a bridal carry.

Maybe, if Mitya was less out of it, he’d be embarrassed by this.

    -

Or: 3 times Valeriy prevents an attempt on Mitya's life, and the one time he gets there too late.

    Summary

Valeriy has realised that reasoning with Mitya is surprisingly difficult for a man whose entire profession is supposed to be built on reason. Apparently, the only way to get anywhere is to learn how Mitya thinks.

    -

Or: Valeriy learns a little too much about research and Mitya himself, and ends up unintentionally learning to speak the language Mitya is most familiar with.

    Summary

While there are arguments—usually from Rtawahist scholars—for the fact that the soul never truly lingers once the body undergoes death, there is sufficient biological evidence showcasing that for nearly six minutes and forty eight seconds on average, the human brain keeps firing signals.

‘What did you see in your final moments?’ he wondered, as the others around him clamoured to point fingers at each other. ‘Was I in even one of your precious memories, Sarge?’

    —Or,

In the aftermath of the events at Korolevskiy Theater, the researchers are given a much deserved time off work, and Mitya tries to meld himself back together, one puzzle piece at a time.

    Summary

" Mitya tilts his head, blinking slowly up at him. “Uh, are you the delivery guy?”

In his well-pressed suit, freshly-shined medals pinned on his chest, Valeriy can't help but look down to check if he accidentally wore the wrong thing today. He'd wanted his appearance to reflect how reliable he would be as head of Mitya's security detail.

“Do I look like a delivery guy?” He asks, genuinely bewildered.

    Mitya considers. “No…”

    “I'm with the Fatui.”

“Oh.” He scratches the back of his neck. “That’s - ha, I'm not usually into military types, that's all.” "
