He hadn’t expected how hard it would be to have a meaningful conversation with Shadow. Every time he tried to strike up a friendly chat with him, he’d shut it down almost instantly. And believe him, he had tried, perhaps pushed a little too much on multiple occasions, but still, nothing. He couldn’t even get Shadow to tell him his favorite color.
So here he was, trying to get information on the guy by digging through his stuff. Was it a severe breach of Shadow’s trust and privacy? Sure. But what he didn’t know wouldn’t hurt him.

(Taka had picked out this article specifically, out of the dozens that showed up with his query, because of that last clause. If he could break this down into a science -- be able to put a name on each emotion and neatly organise them much like his study notes -- then this would be so much easier! Love was a solved concept apparently, and if he must discover such a thing via a printed out website from a machine that was running low on ink, well, that was how it had to be. The pursuit of knowledge was not an easy one.)

At that moment, an epiphany bubbled into Teddie’s mind: Yu is dealing with both Nanako and Mr. Dojima, his caretaker, in the hospital, and is probably going through one of the toughest periods of his life. His human life. Guilt sluggishly seeped into his chest, realizing he’s been saying all these pointless things to someone who comes home to a desolate house each day.
Teddie inattentively laughed, now moving to fidget with his golden bangs. He still smiled. “That’s a stupid thing to say, isn’t it? I really am talking nonsense… sorry.”
And finally, Teddie met Yu’s eyes, and froze.
