    There were plenty of ways for him to start this with, he could tell her not to go near Sanford, that if she can, run in the opposite direction. “Ashley cheated on me with Sanford..” he breathed out. “She thinks I’m in love with someone else,” he said, his tone a subtle vulnerability present. His hands closed into a fist before opening again. He did this a few times, just enough to bring him back to earth. Lucy is quiet for too long, and it makes him think he’s fucked this all up. What if she had interest in the youth pastor and this broke her heart? That feeling made his stomach clench…

    “Oh.”

    “That person was you.” The addition of those words made everything fall into place.

    “And…?” She asked, her expression soft, less guarded. The arms that had been crossed have fallen to her sides. It was like she was waiting for him to share this epiphany.

    With no fear, he took a few steps forward. “She’s right.”
