Summary
“Why— do the Earthlings— do this?” Sun gasped when he got to them, doubling over with his hands on his knees. “It’s dreadfully inefficient. Why do they fight so hard against gravity? Is this meant to be fun?”
“Yup!” Earth rocked on his heels, eyes following something in a different tree before refocusing on Sun with a grin. “It’s also for the exercise. And the views.”
“Ah yes. The views.” Sun leaned against a tree, narrowing his eyes at Earth. “Lots of trees. And green. Very nice. We’ve seen it now so I guess it’s time to head back…?”
“We’ve barely started! And we need to get higher up to see the landscape.” And the planet was bounding up the slope again, knocking stones and stick out of their place. “C’mon, let’s go.”

When it was only Earth, Luna and Sun left in the Solar System, Earth took them all onto his surface for a hike. -

Paul is so much like Lightning but snappier(?) It's so interesting to be able to compare the two duos. Like I don't think Doc now would ever flip Lightning off XD but Lightning also seems more emotionally open compared to young Paul

"Bill, junk, bill, more junk...ah, here it is." He lets the rest flutter like glossy leaves onto the kitchen counter and slits open the envelope on the only piece of mail he will ever have interest in.
Congratulations, you're officially a grandfather...
The world spins faster than it's ever done before. He finds the countertop and grips its edge. Then he thinks of all the times he told Paul to be goddamn careful when he took girls out... And then he remembers this isn't the hotheaded twenty five year old he last saw, this is supposed to be a mature man in his fifties. There's got to be more to it.
Well, you are in the same way you're a dad.
That's nice to read. But did Paul really have to put it like that? "You damn hoodrat," he mutters, eyes following the curve and swoop of the precious words. "About time you figured it out."
I'm not telling you that you were right, because your head will get big and I'm not going to be held responsible for that. But you did have a point. The past isn't a place to stay in. There's no living in a time that doesn't exist anymore. Specially when you've got a twenty year old kid who lives in the present moment. Not the past, or even the future. God help me, he's a worse adrenaline junkie than I used to be.
Somehow, Smokey has the distinct impression that Lightning doesn't sneak off to partake in demolition derbies or use his car as a makeshift airplane. Still, he'll let Paul fool himself if he really wants to.
I really hope he never does the things I used to. So far, he's only tried to outdrive law enforcement once, so let's hope it stays that way.
For his part, even if it has been over three decades, Smokey doesn't want to know about skirmishes with the law. Paul only ever got caught once and was admittedly a much better driver after that. Of course, he'd gotten in trouble for speeding. So...chances aren't good that Paul's wish will come true.
He's the kid you should've had.
And then the world slows down.
For one thing, he doesn't believe in getting up early. He told me a couple of days ago that it was against his religion and then couldn't tell me which one it was, so he said it was classified. He's a smart one, he's got great humour, he's got a good heart, and he knows better than I did how to be grateful for people. I know it hurt you when I left. I wasn't trying to hurt anyone, I swear. Least of all you. It's hard to explain what was going on then, but I know I wasn't the kid you loved any more. I don't think I am even now. We don't stay the same, do we?
Smokey stops reading it right there. For thirty-five years, right up until this present moment, does Paul really think that? True, he can't be called a kid anymore, but it doesn't change the fact that he's not just as good as Smokey's kid. He is. But...how typical of Paul to think that. And how reasonable. Smokey lets his eyes drift to the letter's end.
Love, Paulie
"Alright," Smokey places the letter with the rest in their neat little box. He will find a good place for them, but for now, he likes having them all in one place so he can pick through his favourites and read them again. This time, he finds the first one and scans it for the information he wants. "You're not the only one in the family that can put a pen to paper, Paulie."

Summary
In their first season together as a team, Lightning and Doc take on the home track of Chick Hicks at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Except "Lightning" McQueen appears to be absent from the track. But it's fine, because "Bulldozer" McQueen can get the job done in his place. (Uh, maybe.)

YES I swear there is so much evidence of him struggling with undiagnosed OCD in the films, espeeeccially the way he Must say the same phrase before every race and strongly believes in Luck and Perfection/his aversion to failure. He even hallucinates, and his brain not only jumps to the worst possible conclusions, but it spells it out for him in graphic detail. He is Distressed. And he has... no idea lmfao.
Thanks for reading, glad you enjoyed! -

COMMOCT FRIST CHAPTER
I'm 100% with you on the whole Doc only has the Hornet as a car deal, but I disagree with it being barley running. After Doc fixed it up, he started to keep expert maintenance on it. To the point it was an abstention. In a way it helps keep his drive to race alive, but it also reminds him to never go back since the crash destroyed his car. By the time of his death the car is spotless, and Lighting is now in charge of maintenance and is at the same pace Doc was about it. Not driven by racing passion, but out of respect for the car that made both him and Doc's career. Most people think it's holding on by a thread, but a video mysteriously pops up on Dinaco's YouTube page and it's of the Hornet ripping up some dirt track. I just love the idea that Doc's car just refuses to die. In some way it has Doc's soul in it and if the car didn't fail on him after the crash, then it ain't failing on Lighting and his family.
Yet again this does come from my experience of having one blue jacket that got ripped once but now has a patch and refuses to go down without a fight.
