Summary
Because the Herculean burden of being human can’t be satisfied with being anything but the most heart-wrenching experience of your life. It demands empathy without any reward, forgiveness without any justice. Being human requires you to chug along and drive onwards, even when everything you are is screaming to stay behind. Being human means not only being able to accept change, but not fearing it, either.
And “human” is something Johnny Silverhand is decidedly not. Not in a straightforward sense, at least.
But if V can’t accept change, what does that make her?

“V, you fuckin’ gonk,” he hisses, but it’s too late, she’s already gone, and he’s left there, alone, standin’ in front of cop choom’s fuckin’ trailer.
He turns ‘round real quick—maybe he can delta the fuck outta there ‘fore he’s spotted—but he hasn’t gone five steps when a hand clamps down on his shoulder.
“V! There ya are. C’mon in, Joss’s just gettin’ started on dinner.”
Fuck, Johnny thinks as River Ward, smiling down at the person he believes is V, steers him into the trailer. Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck.--
Wanting nothing less than to attend another family dinner with River and the Kutchers, Johnny convinces V to take the Omega Blockers so he can fade blissfully into the background. Except neither of them accounted for V popping the wrong pill, and before he knows it, Johnny is faced with his worst possible nightmare: having dinner with a cop.

However, as certain glaring inconsistencies begin to become more and more apparent, V starts to suspect there may be a little something more to the holes in his memories.
