Robby’s still struggling to breath when he notices that he’s not alone on the sidewalk outside of the sports arena. A few feet away, standing there in his red gi, is Miguel Diaz, holding his shoes by their laces in one hand and his phone in the other, staring down at it. His feet are bare. He’s standing there, looking alive and uninjured and nothing like the kid who Robby fought last year, in the first All Valley Tournament.

Summary
For years, Zuko has believed the Fire Nation to be unstoppable. 'There's no accounting for the tightwire nervousness shivering up her spine in the split second it takes him to answer her, nor the relief when he lets out a soft exhale and then inhales again. "Can you," he says. Swallows hard. "Can you just take care of it?"
"It'll just—" he swallows again. Sofia can see the red clinging in the cracks in his teeth. "It'll just make things quicker. Right?"
"Yes," Sofia has to admit, and Jason sighs, his shoulders loosening.
"Okay," he says. He's looking at her, still. Waiting for something.
She cannot let her hands shake. She cannot let her knees tremble when she stands, cannot let her finger quiver over the trigger as she pulls the pistol out again. She cannot show weakness. It's the least she can do for him.
His lips quirk up as he stares down the barrel of her gun. "See you on the other side."'
this series is a hard-hitter. the prose is gorgeous, the relationship between sofia and jason beautifully sculpted (and i don't even go to the penguin so!). jason's issues and sofia's issues and the circle they've pulled one another into. (night watch is also fire)

the way I devoured this !!! it’s so so sooo good, i love jason’s gritty texture and characterization, the life thrumming through this, and of course the confusion and angst about an identity that is unknown and then not a fit. would read a hundred more parts <3

"The thing about staying mad at Jonathan – you can’t, because at any given moment, he’s probably even madder at himself. Anything you could say to him is no match for what he’s already said to himself, repeatedly, in much harsher tones and much crueler words. Why even try?
Jonathan says he’s sorry, and Will’s not even sure for what. He says it’s all his fault, when they both know that’s not true. And then it feels like it’s Will’s turn to say something, say the one thing, but he doesn’t, he can’t, so Jonathan skips past the stutter and says what he would have said in response, anyway.
I’m always gonna be here. There is nothing in this world (absolutely nothing) that will ever change that. And then, I love you.
And he wishes he could live in this moment forever."
