Summary
Grace feels like he’s dying on Erid, having lived there for 2 years now and the loneliness is starting to grate at him. He misses Earth, he misses his friends, and overall he misses human connection. So, to boost his mental health, the Eridian couple Rocky and Adrian take their favourite human on holiday in the Hail Mary, only to encounter a mysterious submarine floating in space.
Simon’s wish has been granted. He’s, by all technicalities, alive. He’s kept breathing by his mutations, the blood that seeped under his skin is keeping him breathing and functioning, but it’s more than him. There’s something else too, a familiar, echoing and mocking voice in his head that won’t go away, that didn’t want to die either.

TLDR: A depressed Grace finds himself on holiday in the Mary with Adrian and Rocky, and they encounter a distressed, hallucinating man in a rusty submarine full of blood.

Summary
Ava knew who the Butcher was. She didn't know the convict she sent down into the depths of a blood ocean under false pretenses was him until he told her his name in a fit of mania and terror.
Now she's on Erid in a house with Simon the Butcher of Eden, and a scientist from another universe and a bunch of sentient rocks, and she has to just... live with that now.
Or: Ava gets to witness Simon healed and happy in his domestic bliss with Grace, and she's pretty weird, I mean totally normal about it.

"There's no need to negotiate for your safety, Doctor Grace," Stratt says sternly. "I can assure you, after saving the world, you will be looked after."
"Um, no," he says, shaking his head. "I'm not negotiating for my safety." He steps aside. “I’m negotiating for theirs.”
They walk into the light of the open doorway; Simon, squinting hard against the vivid sun with his hand raised to shield his eyes and Rocky, who chirps a casual "Hello, humans!" with a wave.
There’s a gasp; someone takes a step backward; one of the military personnel raises their rifle slightly.
Grace doesn’t have eyes for them - he only looks at Stratt.
And he decides, then and there, to replace the image of Stratt’s face sending him to his death, full of remorse and sadness, with the one in front of him: utter, complete disbelief.

Summary
Eridians have recreated more of Earth than Grace could have imagined. Waves, trees, flowers — Grace is grateful for all of it. Simon feels the same, even if he doesn’t say as much. Grace can tell from how curious Simon has become.
Answering his questions about plant life was a breakthrough for their relationship. So, as long as Simon wants to know something, Grace is willing to teach him about it. It's just that giving a lesson on this particular flower isn't quite like what Grace is used to teaching about. After all, it's not like he'd have ever brought up marijuana in the classroom.

Simon pulled away and pressed his forehead into Ryland’s, fluttering his eyes open.
The blond opened his eyes slowly, gazing up at Simon like he was worth something. “Love you,” he mumbled quietly.
The brunet huffed fondly. “Love you too.” He pressed a quick kiss into his lover's lips. “Love you so much.”
Their lips joined again, slotting together perfectly. Like everything in the universe bent to bring them together. Simon supposed it had. He tilted his head forward, deepening the kiss.
