On September 29th Ken awakens to a persona that feels wrong. With it comes a crash course on life, other people, the ability to care again, and how to find out who he is after everything that's happened.
(This fic spends some time on the relationship between Ken and Kotone. If you view it in a romantic lens or ship it in any way, you have no business reading this fic.)
[Also, while this fic is about transfem Ken, the earlier parts take place before her egg cracks. As such, she is referred to by he/him pronouns by herself and others during those parts of the story. So if you aren't comfortable with that, then you may struggle with this fic for the first few chapters.]

You would have known if you read anything I sent. But you didn't and you shut me out. I lost my best friend and you didn't even say anything. You couldn't pull your head out of your ass for more than a few seconds to care about anyone else around you because you hate me. Fine. Hate me for things that aren't my fault. But at least give enough of a damn to say that to my face. What's your problem with me?”
Makoto’s eyes are so tired and empty, a dull grey behind unkempt bangs. He looks down but this time Akihiko lets him. He's always had trouble with eye contact. He's doing it again, he's indulging that weakness instead of bearing his spine and demanding anything. He hadn’t even been this weak with Miki.
“I still love you.”
He leaves. Closure is a lie. Everything is open and burning and raw and that's the truth.
