Todoroki Shouto made a deal with his father to get out of his alpha reformatory school: he'll tolerate being in his father's class at UA as if he's any other teacer, so long as Endeavor treated him like any other student, and so long as he let Shouto get in with his own strength by taking the general entrance exam.
Bakugou Katsuki isn't really an omega. That's what everyone says. He doesn't count, he's basically an alpha, and everyone assumes he's an alpha anyway. Except now he's at UA and suddenly people care about these things, want to stick their noses in and have opinions no one asked for.

“Shouto…?” she murmured, and his heart seized.
“Momo! Thank God, Momo!” He clutched her tighter, ignoring the pain in his side, the blood soaking through his uniform. “Okay, okay, you’re here. You’re gonna be okay. We’ll get you to the hospital, or-”
“Shouto,” she interrupted gently, her voice barely audible. “What are you doing here? I’m not alive. I can’t help you…”

He hasn’t been engaging in Katsuki’s attempts at conversation. Not because he’s trying to be rude. Speaking just takes a lot of effort. So much work. And then the thought comes. Quick, cold, detached as if ripped out of some magazine headline, churned out of some goddamn journalist's laptop keyboard.
"I think I kind of want to kill myself," Shouto says point-blank. Katsuki spits out his drink.

Summary
Todoroki Shouto was immensely grateful for his lack of facial expressions.
He’d always been a person of few emotional tells, mostly because of his upbringing. He learned to lie, learned to suppress his pain, and learned how to internalize his problems. He was not allowed to be weak, so he hid his thoughts behind a stoic face and short responses.
Which is why when he began to lose his grasp on his emotions, none of it showed on his face.
(or: Shouto got too comfortable living at the dorms and away from his father's intense training. The dorms close for the weekend after he fails the provisional hero licensing exam, and the shock of the punishment training sends him spiraling. Back in compliance, his thoughts get darker and darker until the ice half of his Quirk starts freezing out of control.)
