That apprentice happens to come about in the form of Anthony Edward Stark and he isn’t really sure how to deal with that.

“Then what is it?” Howard was going from amused to annoyed and Tony knew he was running out of time.

“James?”
“Buchanan.”
“James Buchanan.” Howard repeated, raising an eyebrow at Tony. “Did you invent a time machine and are somehow dating the 15th president?”
“You did ask for someone suitable.”

He feels crushed. He feels like taking everything that he’s worked on for the next album and throwing it out and retreating to New York to work for Stark Industries. So he politely opened the gates of the lab and knocked slowly, before asking — he’d feel silly about asking a ghost a question later, for now, the conservation of electricity mattered more — “Is anyone here?”Perhaps it was not a ghost in reality, for there was a soft shuffle and a slew of Italian curses thrown around in a tiny voice. Then, a head popped up from where the kid (what the heck was a kid doing here?) had been sitting on the floor, obstructed from the view by rows of desks and chairs and randomly laying machineries.
“What do you want?” the kid had the wildest haircut ever. Gods, he’d be bullied if he ever decided to go out showing his face like that. Between a round face framed by a very weirdly adorable looking pageboy haircut was a pair of bambi eyes. The kid could not have been more than fourteen. He was practically sitting among lots of death traps.
