After the Fortress, after the city's grief and the shaharreth on every wall, Clark Kent comes back to Metropolis and tries to figure out what home means for someone like him.
Bruce Wayne is apparently part of that answer. Clark is working on accepting this.
This is a story about the specific courage of choosing someone who will die before you do. About the difference between happiness and contentment. About the people who show up for you in your building hallway at six in the morning and the people who put a transponder in your cape because they can't say I was afraid for you any other way.

He would call, and he would be a journalist, and he would not think about the bathroom or the heartbeat or the way Bruce had gone still and careful the moment Clark had pulled back, asking "Do you want to stop? " like what he wanted really mattered, even if Bruce looked like he wanted to take, like Clark's answer was the only important thing weighing on him.
He would absolutely not think about that.Or: Superman and Batman meet properly for the first time; Clark does not handle it as gracefully as he should, the heartbeat memorization wasn't on purpose, and he would like everyone to stop looking at him like that.
