Summary
Following “It's not so easy to create our own future”, “James Lester Tells a Story” and episode 6 (the final episode) of season 5 of Primeval.
Emily Merchant is in troubled by Matt Anderson’s, her lover, odd behaviour and turns to James Lester. In private, of course. It’s possible that Matt, having gone through such a terrible experience with the destruction of that anomaly that nearly destroyed the entire Earth, isn’t the same person anymore. Or maybe that’s not it? For his part, James Lester also has problems; Tamsien, his wife, now knows the exact nature of his work and hasn’t spoken to him in a week. Lester doesn’t know exactly why.
Meanwhile, in Saint Marie, Richard Poole receives a strange call from Matt, who dialed the wrong number. Richard notices that Anderson seems very disoriented. He decides to call James to ask if there’s a problem he and his wife, Camille, should know about. They’re still recovering from the impact Saint Marie suffered during the severe global crisis caused by anomalies appearing everywhere.Series

It left them scrambling to explain a lot of things to the world, to account for their role in the almost-apocalypse and in the definite-aversion-of-it, to adjust to declassification—and to recover from the heavy losses they had taken in equipment, resources, and personnel. Some people are struggling more than others.
Jess tries to help them and to not make a fuss over herself. (Becker has a different set of priorities.)
Re: the last scene of the finale (Matt’s little conversation with…himself), there is room for it to have happened in this ’verse, but this fic does not directly acknowledge it.
