Jinshi was in serious trouble now. With the Emperor’s children continuing to grow sick and die, he’s not sure where to go from here. At least until a young apothecary girl with sharp blue eyes, a splattering of freckles, and was as blunt as a hammer comes into his life. Despite having everything handed to him on a silver platter, Jinshi had lived a lonely and dull life where he learned to hide his true face behind a façade he presents to the court… until he meets Maomao.
For the first time, someone sees past his mask to his true self and she fills his world with color. Jinshi's feelings for Maomao evolve from initial curiosity and amusement to deep affection and romantic interest until he realized he cannot live without her.

She continued her mixing until she heard a crunch from one of the fallen leaves outside the shop’s door. Nobody passed through that area of the building during these hours of the night. The lively chatter and rustle of the Verdigris House could be faintly heard, but those chambers were located way south of where the noise was coming from. Maomao slowly put down the mortar as the footsteps became more apparent with each second. They increased in proximity until finally a firm fist rapped against the entrance door.
The apothecary hesitantly approached the door while her mind ran through all the possible people who would intrude at such hours of the night. She did not expect to open the door to find the gorgeous nymph that frequently roamed the loggias of the rear palace.
“Jinshi-sama, what brings you here at such hours of the night?” Maomao questioned, noting his lack of companionship from both Gaoshun and Basen, his usual assistants.
“I came to visit you. I believe we have some…important matters to discuss,”Jinshi voiced.

a/n 9.18.25: Hello, I updated the tags thanks to some helpful advice from PaddleWaddle and MegaChive. I want to reiterate that plz don't stress about endgames too much. The tags are mostly to denote the amount of page space dedicated to exploration of different aspects. This work's primary objective is to write a story that includes characters that are underutilized in canon while not writing a story that is too similar to Natsu's progression. IMO the kind of Jinmao progression that we usually see is best left for Natsu to develop. I hope you can understand (bows deeply).
