“We still haven’t tried to…” Clack.
“Surely there is a way out of this, my lady.” Clack.

Summary
"Meet us at the tree after graduashon," was all it had read, in handwriting that may as well have been chicken scratch (or, well, maybe not chicken scratch; Berdly's handwriting was much better).
There was only one person who could've written a letter like that, and she sighed dreamily just imagining her penning it: Susie. Susie, who she'd eyed since the day she transferred in, who'd spared only Noelle from her bitter mean streak. Maybe it was wrong of her to feel that way about somebody who'd shoved her childhood friend into a locker, but funnily enough, after that day, Susie and Kris had become the best of friends. After they'd... disappeared into the school's supply closet for several hours.
She tried not to think too much about what that might've meant.Or, Noelle receives a note.

Summary
Everything was so blue there; the interminable glow of the city lights, the Queen’s hard shell, the pavements, the glimmering night sky, Kris’s hair and skin… no, that wasn’t Kris, not really. Kris was… the person she could say no to, the one who really understood her when nobody else did.
But then, maybe they knew that if they pushed things too far, she’d really put her foot down; maybe they were testing her resolve.
Or, Noelle thinks some things through.

Summary
“Hey, no, nobody’s getting splatted, we’re good. I mean, uh, we’re gonna crush—er, not that… look, we got this in the bag, alright?”
Marina gave an inquisitive look to her costume bag and back to Pearl. Putting a hand to her face and drawing in a deep breath, Pearl squawked out her last clarification, before her nerves got her.
“WE’RE GONNA WIN, ‘KAY?”
Or, even Off The Hook had to get their start somewhere.

Summary
“Yo, I think it likes me. You got something to tell me, gayass?”
With all the nerve it absolutely did not deserve, Kris’s soul wagged up and down with a vigor it had never once shown. Groaning, they flopped forward onto the picnic table in front of them, making a face as they realized they’d landed squarely into a cobweb.
Or, Kris' soul takes matters into its own hands.

Summary
A few days ago, Susie would’ve said she didn’t have a gentle bone in her body. Now, with every ounce she could gather, every teaching from Ralsei she’d stitched into her soul, she lifted Kris’s hand (sopping, limp) from their chest (pounding, fragile) to replace it with her own (trembling, scarred).
Or, it's the end of the world as Susie knows it.

Summary
“You’re a hero,” Ralsei mumbled, hardly believing the words that escaped her own mouth.
“HA! Me? A hero? Heh, well, if you insist, little lady.” The figure—no, her name was Susie, Ralsei recalled unbidden—gave the princess a toothy smirk, the yellow of her eye lit by the sun for a brief moment.
Or, a chance encounter brings together the runaway princess of an empty land and a scoundrel who might yet become a hero.

Summary
It wasn’t a surprise to Noelle, when she finally found Susie head-deep into bobbing for apples, that Kris was there with her. Or that Susie hadn’t dressed up—after all, she’d figured by now, she probably didn’t have much money for new clothes. That was something she could help fix, and with the bonus of seeing Susie try on a handsome little outfit or two as well. No, what was surprising was what Susie was holding when she finally turned around, crushing an apple into juice in her mouth (hot, Noelle decided)—an upside-down bouquet of flowers in bright yellows, reds, and greens, its lack of color coordination made up for by its sheer volume.
Or, Susie tries (and fails) to pick the perfect bouquet for Noelle before the Hometown Festival.

Summary
“First one to the bottom of the sundae wins. And you gotta be able to see to the bottom, so don’t just stick your spoon all the way down and say you won, dumbass.”
“Would I ever,” Kris taunted, their smile telling a different story from their words.
“Yes, you would,” grumbled Susie. So she was still sore about the pie incident.
“Yeah, maybe,” Kris shrugged. “But deal. You’ll win anyway.”
Or, Kris and Susie attempt Hometown's worst food challenge.

Summary
Oh no, Alphys thinks. She’s zoned out again. She promised herself, begged and swore and pleaded with herself, she’d stop doing that. They’ve been together long enough, she thinks, surely Alphys can’t keep finding new parts of Undyne’s body to dedicate all of her brainpower to instead of the conversation at hand.
So far, her hypothesis hasn’t been panning out.
Or, Alphys loses her train of thought.

"If there was one thing you missed... What would it be?"
Loop's gaze remains skyward; they don't want to acknowledge the question unless they have an answer. It's sadder to answer that they don't remember a single thing than to say that they'd zoned out, that they'd forgotten the question entirely thanks to the magic of Wish Craft.
Right as Odile opens her mouth to change the subject, they speak.
Or, Odile and Loop talk about home.
