Summary
The last think Hakoda wanted was for his son to forget his heritage and his loyalty; Aang was an optimist, after all, and while the Fire Nation throne had changed hands in the aftermath of the war, Hakoda couldn't help but be skeptical.
It was nothing against the child who had been put on the throne, but at the end of the day, Zuko was just that.
A child no older than his son, and while he loved Sokka dearly, he was not nearly old enough to rule a nation.

"So why don't you announce your relationship?" Aang suggested softly before quickly adding as Zuko's golden eyes met his gray ones, "if you two want to, obviously, but isn't that tradition? To announce exciting things about the Fire Nation during the celebration?"
Zuko paused, trying to process what that would be like, to finally be out in the nation he had personally toiled away at for days and nights to ensure safety, to finally be rid of marriage offers and letters and watching as nobility nodded sadly when he had to reject them.
"It's not the worst idea." Sokka supplied softly, gently running his hand up Zuko's bicep.
Or: Sokka does drag, Zuko finally stops procrastinating on coming out to Iroh, and Toph still punches people in the arm, all with a week-long celebration as the backdrop.

"So, you wanna unpack it?" Sokka asked after a moment, his hand drifting to Zuko's, "the whole "after the wedding" thing?"
Zuko sighed, running a hand through the front of his hair as he mulled his options quickly, settling on pressing another kiss to Sokka's face before shaking his head.
"Like you said," he told him, maneuvering his hands so they were both laying on the bed, hovering over his husband and pressing a kiss to his neck, "we can figure it out later."
Or: Sokka and Zuko are betrothed, so naturally, next comes the wedding. Nothing else at all, just the wedding...right?
