Summary
Anakin scowled. “Keep your mind games to yourself.”
Kenobi circled him slowly, hands clasped behind his back like he was giving a tour. “Oh, they're not mind games, sweetheart. Just facts. Observations. For example—” His gaze flicked down and back up, maddeningly slow. “—you lead with your right side, but you favor your left when you’re angry. And you’re angry now, aren’t you?”
Anakin’s saber hissed to life, blue light casting sharp shadows across the broken walls. “Say one more word and I’ll show you angry.”

Summary
He ran a hand through his hair, pacing a few steps away. “He didn’t try to kill me. I think... I think he enjoyed fighting me. Not sadistically. He was better than me, Padmé. And he let me go. It felt personal.”
Padmé frowned, thoughtful. “You think he knew who you were.”
“I know he did.” He looked away again. “But I can't… remember— It’s like he came out of nowhere. And that’s how the Sith operate. They hide."
Padmé gave a slow nod. “And there’s always two.”

Summary
Sometimes, in the quiet moments between his obsessive bouts of tracking Darth Vesper, Anakin thought about Ahsoka. About how easily the Council had cast her aside with no apology or admission of guilt. Only silence and a half-baked excuse of how the betrayal would make her a better Jedi. More useful to them.
She had trusted them. He had trusted them. And in the end, trust hadn't been enough.
Maybe that was why this hunt felt so urgent, why he couldn't let it go. If he brought Kenobi in, if he succeeded where the Council had fai— struggled, maybe then they'd see him the way he had always wanted them to since his first day standing before them at nine years old. Not as reckless or unstable or too attached.
Just right.
Just enough.

Summary
He didn't even fully remember the crash. He remembered the moment the control yoke went slack in his hands, the hiss of ruptured seals, and then blankness. When he came to, he was already being hauled onto a stretcher, smoke thick in the air and voices echoing in and out of clarity. Someone had said his name, but he didn't know who.
Anakin exhaled hard through his nose, regretting it instantly. Pain flared sharp in his side. A bruised rib, maybe two. Nothing bacta wouldn’t fix. He’d ignored worse.
That wasn’t the problem.
The problem was how fast the ambush had been. How clean. As if someone had known exactly where he’d drop out of hyperspace.
As if they’d been waiting.

Summary
Two words slammed into him like a punch: ambush and firefight. The rest was garbled, a combination of intercepted chatter from clone comms and coordinates scrambled with static. There was a downed transport. And then, nothing.
He didn’t excuse himself. He didn’t answer the aide-droid’s startled query. He just turned, cloak flaring behind him, already halfway down the corridor before the door had even hissed open.
“Lord Vesper, your orders—”
“Clear a flight path. Now.”

Summary
That was the problem. The halves felt truer than the whole. And though he believed everything Kenobi had told him, Anakin couldn't stop wondering what he hadn't told him, what he didn't know.
He still didn't know why Kenobi had been tracking his missions for years before they crossed blades on Mandalore.
He didn't know why Kenobi had all but confessed his love for him only to suddenly cut off all contact.
And Palpatine seemed to understand.
He always knew what to say.

Summary
He swallowed down the twist in his chest, the ache of all the memories this place held, now fractured and crumbling around them. Not only did the shifting shadows and alien hum of the alarms quicken Anakin's pulse, but the weight of everything that just occurred seemed to magnify that anxiety tenfold.
The whiplash of believing he’d been betrayed, then realizing he hadn't, only to doubt again, and then find true deception where he least expected it, left his mind spinning.
The lines between friend and foe blurred, tangled in a web that Anakin had been almost certain he could never fully unravel.
Now, as he fell into step with Kenobi, he wondered how he could have been so blind.

Summary
It took two weeks for everything to fall apart.
Two weeks of hyperspace jumps and open skies, of salt on their lips and sand in their boots, of stolen kisses that tasted like relief.
Two weeks of warm hands and heads thrown back in laughter and ecstasy. Two weeks of pretending that the galaxy had stopped hunting them, that the Force had gone still just because they wanted it to.
That the future wasn’t waiting to collect its debt. That they had outrun consequence.
Looking back, Anakin thought, maybe they had. Just not for long.
