The cold was thick and unforgiving, it clawed its way through his skin and chewed at his flesh and mauled his weak, tiny body. The snow invaded his home. The frost crept up his walls. The ice rooted itself within his dirt floors. The season froze the world around him, deadening the forest and sending the animals below the ground, the plants withered in its wake and the streams halted in their paths, succumbing to the tendrils of winter.
