“Can…” Dan Heng clears his throat. “Can I hold your hand?”
Yingxing grins at him, his eyes curving into little crescents. “You don’t have to ask, silly.” His voice is soft, but he looks pleased as he extends a hand in front of Dan Heng’s face. Dan Heng feels like he’s done something right.
“I’ll keep asking,” he says, and takes Yingxing’s hand. It’s rough and calloused, his fingers hard and knobbly. It feels too intimate to link their fingers, so Dan Heng just presses their palms together. Yingxing’s hand feels too warm against Dan Heng’s cool skin, but he’s smiling. He’s really pretty. Dan Heng wonders if he’s adopted Dan Feng’s feelings as well, but two men can appreciate the same person’s beauty, right?

“How technologically advanced would the Xianzhou be without my power?” The Flint Emperor snarled. “Lan should beg me for my forgiveness. I extended my help to his cries, and what did I get in return? He left the rest of me here to be imprisoned for all of eternity.” The Flint Emperor’s flame flickered like a secret shared between them, and for a moment it took Huaiyan aback with the sincerity of it all.

Jiaoqiu had only been aware of two states of mind - his eyes were open, or they were closed. His world was an endless haze of aches as the borisin tried to rip him from limb to limb.
They told him, they kept him for a few days. He might never see again for the rest of his life. He still saw them, when he closed his eyes, and heard them too, their chuffing breaths, their snarling teeth, their taste on his mouth.Jiaoqiu dreams.
“By the way,” Feixiao said, “There’s a little pig in your room.” It was flopped over on a cushion in the corner, snoring.
“I got it from the Dragon Lady,” Jiaoqiu explained.
Feixiao nuzzled Jiaoqiu on the cheek, which Jiaoqiu returned, but something nagged at him. She sounded the same, and Moze let her in, but her scent… “Something’s changed about you.”

Cerces pats the top of Anaxa’s head. “This is Anaxagoras.”
“I left you alone for a second,” says Mydei, appearing behind the three of them.Anaxa and Mydei revisit the Castrum Kremnos of the past.
Mydei and Cerces pause in their conversation and swivel to him.
“You’re both talking about me,” Anaxa says, perplexed. “Behind my back.”
“No, we’re not,” Mydei says, stone-faced. He always has the same hardened expression on his face, his brows knitted sharply together. Anaxa may not be able to tell if he was lying, if only for Cerces’ poorly stifled laughter.
“I’m not easily duped,” Anaxa says. A pause, “I’m not Phainon.”Series

If I have to smash that thing to smithereens, I’ll consider it a job done.”
