    “Your name is Carlo.”

P blinked. The old man who stared up at him, knelt at his feet, had kind eyes and a gentle smile. He spoke delicately with words full of affection.

“And you are my son.” He said.

    Summary

“I understand you worry for him. But young Romeo has been at the estate for barely a year. He’ll find his footing, and his people. You must only have faith, sister.”

“Oh, I have faith in spades,” Sophia says, “but is it so bad I wish to give him a little push in the right direction?”

If asked, Sophia would claim there is no child at the Rose Estate she favours over another.

    Her heart thinks otherwise, however.

“Master Lea doesn’t know the meaning of ‘going easy on someone’, I’m afraid.” Ever the gentleman, Romeo takes the basket from her and sets it down carefully. The both of them sink down onto the blanket. “Besides, any bruises and sore muscles we suffer are par for the course.”

“Still,” begins Sophia, “if ever she overdoes it in her teaching…”

He chuckles. “Yes, I know: I will sic her sister onto her. Don’t worry, I won’t deprive you of that joy.”

Laughing, Sophia pushes lightly at his shoulder. Romeo’s smile could light up the night sky, so bright is its radiance. The sight of it makes her immeasurably happy—happier than the possibility of being able to tear her sister a new one (which she would never do. Ever. Perish the thought!)

No one has a greater understanding of the soul than an artist. Not because art holds the soul of its subject, as some might suggest, there is no magic in oil and brush, but because being made the subject of a painting bares one's nature to the artist. It is necessary, if one is to have a truly remarkable portrait painted.

5 pictures of Carlo, and 1 of the boy that carries his heart.

In a bout of selfishness, instead of letting the King move away, the Puppet pulls him back, their bodies pressing even closer, limbs interlocking like puzzle pieces that are finally coming together.

    A beautiful lie.

    Bookmarker's Notes

Yet, in a bout of selfishness, instead of letting the King move away, the Puppet pulls him back, their bodies pressing even closer, limbs interlocking like puzzle pieces that are finally coming together.

A lie. A beautiful one, at that. Because he knew he was a stranger in a body shaped like King’s former love.

But, maybe, if he pretended that he had not heard those words-- pretended that his heart had not been aching from the whispered name: He could turn this lie into a something true.
    (...)
They had looked into the Puppet’s eyes and his entirety: eyeing the little freckles that dotted across his face and skin, and staring at his blue eyes—

Yet, the Puppet remained invisible in the King’s gaze that was too busy searching for a ghost that has long been gone, to be noticed.

    ×

Romeo turned his head, eyes looking up to meet blue hues of his own; a shiver passing through P when those very eyes seemed to focus right on him for the first time; It took everything in him not to look away and hide, seemingly as if the sun had chosen to glare in his eyes, blinding him with the very thing that he had longed for so long.
