Dennis could feel it— someone had been watching him. He glanced around until he spotted the man. He was older, probably at least twenty years Dennis's senior. He was a few inches taller, too, with a thick dark beard and warm brown eyes. There was a slight sadness in his eyes, despite the way his lovely crowsfeet implied a lifetime of laughter and smiles.
"Saddle up, cowboy," Trinity smirked.

Summary
Dennis finds himself driving a rented Jeep Wrangler through a small beach town in northern Italy, on his first ever adult vacation and his first time outside of the U.S. full stop. He can't stop smiling to himself even with the jetlag. As he merges off a roundabout, he pulls into a large parking lot outside the shopping district. He's eager to check out the shops, maybe grab his first gelato of the trip, but food is the priority; he hasn't eaten anything since his shitty airplane meal and that had been hours ago.
He picks a place at random; he's starving and he figures the trattoria filled with chatting patrons on the patio should be a safe bet. He shyly nods when the hostess asks him if he'd a like a table for one in her slightly accented English.
Just as he's about to sit down, he hears a startlingly familiar voice from behind him.
"Holy shit. Whitaker?"
Dennis whips his head around— and, yep. A very sunkissed Dr. Michael Robinovitch, wearing aviator sunglasses and a loose linen button-down is staring at him in disbelief.

Summary
Abbot loved being a doctor but at the end of the day, the system was broken. Sometimes you paid for an Uber to make sure a patient got his meds, sometimes you stitched up your own bullet wound on your day off because the dayshift was busy putting out fires like usual— and anyway, it was sorta your fault that your one hobby was literally going on SWAT raids.
And sometimes you fucked your fellow senior attending so you both stayed sane.

Robby, after working a double-shift, looked like hell: deep dark circles under his eyes, greasy hair, hands so dry from the constant hand sanitizing and nitrile gloves that they were cracked and red. He smelled a bit sour, the way a person couldn't help when you've been awake too long and there wasn't time to wash away the stress sweat. His scrubs were stained with blood and mucus and dirt from saving his latest patient who'd been in a car accident.
And still Dennis wanted to hold him. Kiss him. Bury his nose in Robby's neck and breathe him in. Run his hands underneath his shirt to feel his belly and his hairy chest. Squeeze his subtle love handles and pull him close, so all Dennis could hear was his steady heartbeat, his quiet breathing, the rumble of his voice when he spoke Dennis's surname.
Dennis was in deep shit.
